About the Project
In order to support the high volume orthopaedic surgery program at Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC), CRGA constructed an Orthopaedic & Sports Medicine Center (OSMC) that consists of four treatment pods surrounding imaging and casting rooms. Pods are dedicated to Foot & Ankle, Spine & Joint, Hand & Upper Extremity, and Sports Medicine. Each pod has a dedicated reception/waiting area, which is surrounded by ten examination rooms. Three imaging rooms and a seven bay casting unit support the pods. Patients arriving at the clinic are met by a concierge/receptionist and are directed to the appropriate pod. An orthotics treatment area is also located within the clinic, which includes two exam rooms and a lab. Administrative spaces, which include offices, a secretarial work area, a physicians’ work area, a conference room and a staff lounge, are located in an adjacent area and not within patient care areas.
The orthopaedic program includes a joint replacement “camp.” Following the procedure for the replacement of a joint, the patient comes to this unit to begin, with other patients, the rehabilitation process. Grouping these patients in a “camp” setting allows patients to share the experience with other patients, providing mutual encouragement and support. CRGA’s design for this unit (project area is approximately 18,000 sf) includes all private patient rooms in twelve room pod clusters, with satellite nursing stations serving every two rooms. A day room providing space for multiple functions including dining and various rehab activities is immediately accessible. An inpatient physical therapy gym is also located immediately adjacent to this unit.
CRGA has developed an extensive portfolio of OSMC projects, including locations in Annapolis, Odenton, Crofton, Pasadena, Edgewater, Bowie, and Severna Park.
