Since our founding in1982, CRGA Design’s mission has been to create healthy, sustainable environments for our clients. Our experienced team of architects and interior designers is led by highly experienced professionals, each of whom is distinguished in their field of expertise and has dedicated their careers to creating environments of care. The majority of our senior staff members have been working together for more than twenty years.
CRGA’s focus is on service to our clients; the overwhelming majority of our clients return to us with additional projects. With CRGA, our clients receive continuity in project leadership, resulting in strong relationships based on trust and demonstrated success. We take pride in our longstanding client relationships and the successful projects that we have completed together.
Leadership
Sandy Goodman, IIDA, CHID, LEED AP, EDAC, LSSBB
President
Sandy Goodman has extensive interior design experience designing across today's continuum of care, including dozens of projects at both acute and ambulatory facilities, physician's practices and primary/specialty care suites. Her experience also includes corporate headquarters, administrative consolidation, executive suites, conference and educational space for large healthcare systems. As a Lean Six-Sigma black belt, Sandy is well versed in Lean principles and utilizes her unique expertise to maximize efficiency and eliminate waste in the healthcare environment. In each of these opportunities, Sandy works closely with our clients and key stakeholder groups throughout the design process to develop a space that best fits the needs of the end users and improves the operational model. As the majority owner, Sandy is responsible for directing the firm’s design practice. Sandy's responsibilities include business management, business development, and client and vendor relations management. Her leadership skills are heightened by her certification as a Baldrige Executive Fellow. As a Certified Healthcare Interior Designer, she also serves as Principal-in-Charge on many of our Healthcare projects.
Rolf Haarstad, AIA, LEED AP
Senior Vice President
Rolf Haarstad is a Senior Vice President at CRGA Design. Rolf has a wealth of healthcare design experience to bear through award-winning design, strategic planning and alternative delivery approaches. He is an award-winning designer whose body of work in architecture, strategic planning and alternative delivery approaches has had tremendous impact on his clients and the architectural profession in general. Rolf’s projects have been honored by AIA Maryland, Baltimore Chapter/AIA, ASLA Maryland and AIA Minnesota. His leadership skills have been recognized by several clients, including UPMC Western Maryland where he serves as Chairman of the board. Rolf also serves as a member of the Maryland Hospital Association Executive Committee, and his ongoing involvement in the healthcare community allows him to have an in-depth understanding of our clients needs, Rolf helps translate these needs into effective design and delivery approaches that will benefit each client's short and long-term goals. As Senior Vice President, Rolf will help CRGA continue to build on our substantial healthcare portfolio - in addition to expanding us into other institutional markets through client development, design and branding.
Dave Peabody
Principal
Dave brings both healthcare design and project management experience to CRGA, encompassing all areas of today’s Continuum of Care. Dave’s collaborative approach and his passion for healthcare design are exemplified in his thoughtful and innovative design solutions. Dave’s hands-on approach to planning and programming aid him in steering projects from their conceptual beginnings to successful project delivery. He specializes in managing very complex projects, including both renovation and new construction and is accustomed to working on complex projects in occupied spaces.
Usama Hassanein, Assoc. AIA, EDAC, LEED AP BD+C
Principal
Usama is a seasoned design professional with a demonstrated history of working in the Healthcare architecture & medical planning industry. He is a strong medical space programming, planning and project management professional. He has led renovation projects for healthcare centers across Maryland including the University of Maryland Medical Center, Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, Mercy Health System, Greater Baltimore Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Marcus Wiles, AIA, NCARB, EDAC
Principal
Marcus has a broad portfolio of project types across today’s continuum of care. As one of CRGA Design’s seasoned project managers, Marcus has managed multiple large scale projects and is able to provide effective communication and project management skills that will help fast-track the design process throughout the life of the project. Marcus is a licensed Architect in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
Dennis Robert, AIA
Principal
Dennis offers CRGA and our clients vast healthcare experience and a portfolio varied in project types, from equipment replacements and small renovation projects to large scale complex projects including new facilities and significant additions. Much of his professional experience stems from specialty specific design team participation and leadership in Emergency Care, Cardiology, and Surgery. Other areas of experience include Oncology, Intensive Care, Behavioral Health, Patient Rooms, Imaging and Outpatient Facilities including physician practices and ambulatory services.
Robyn Dubick, IIDA, CHID, LEED AP, EDAC, LSSBB
Principal
Robyn is a talented designer who takes responsibility for managing many of our interior design projects. She is a Certified Healthcare Interior Designer and helps leads the firm’s efforts in staying abreast of the latest Evidence-Based Design research and incorporating best practices to our day-to-day work to further elevate the level of excellence our team is able provide for each project opportunity. Robyn is also a Lean Six-Sigma Black Belt, and utilizes her unique skillset to maximize operational efficiency within the caring environment.
Juan Cardenas, AIA
Principal
Juan is a highly skilled designer who is a registered architect in the state of Maryland. In his current role, he focuses on the firm’s large-scale new construction projects, with a specialization in exterior facades. Juan is a leader in 3D Revit modeling and the integration of virtual reality technology into our design process. Juan is on the firm’s board of directors and leads several in-house initiatives that contribute to the firm’s long-term growth, including mentorship of our entry-level designers.
John Zierdt, IIDA, CID, CHID
Associate Principal
John is a Certified Healthcare Interior designer who takes responsibility for managing many of our interior design projects and has extensive experience designing for primary/specialty care suites, orthopaedics and sports medicine practices, women’s centers and pediatric project types. His project experience includes programming, space planning, construction documents, finishes & furniture specifications and construction administration.
Jigisha Thakkar, LEED AP
Associate Principal
A detail-oriented designer whose collaborative nature keeps her involved in projects from concept to construction, Jigisha seeks out solutions that address the owner’s goals and results in efficient and well-designed deliverables. Jigisha's areas of expertise include Imaging labs, acute care spaces and pharmacies. Her skills as a healthcare architect make her a huge asset to CRGA DESIGN, where we create spaces that foster healing, wellness and recovery.
David Beyer, AIA, HCC, LEED AP
Associate Principal
David is a registered architect with a broad portfolio of projects across today’s continuum of care, including ambulatory care, acute care, and senior living. He brings healthcare experience on all scales of work, both new and renovations. David is responsible for managing the design team and consultants and guiding projects through planning and design into construction and occupancy. He is a member of his local zoning hearing board, the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and is licensed in multiple states. He is a LEED Accredited Professional and has his Healthcare Construction Certificate (HCC) from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE).
Chuck Goodman, AIA, EDAC
Founding Principal
Chuck founded our firm in 1982. Under his direction, we successfully completed hundreds of projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and solidified our team’s passion for creating caring environments for the healthcare industry.
