About the Project

CRGA Design recently completed the TecHill Retail Pharmacy. The new retail and mail order pharmacy commissioned by the Children’s National Hospital, located in Silver Spring, Maryland stands at 4,600 square feet. It resides on the ground floor of an existing office building and incorporates comprehensive customer pickup and drop off, miscellaneous technical and staff spaces, and a full-bodied pharmacy complete with a production area, a non-sterile compounding area for specialized orders, a packing area, and a loading and receiving dock. A dedicated air handler unit room encloses the pharmacy’s dedicated mechanical system, optimizing safety.

A highlight of the space is the way pharmaceutical storage has been distributed efficiently through the production space, allowing for convenient staff access to stored products. The production space is arranged to allow maximum visibility toward all other pharmacy functions, including customer’s point of sale and data entry.

Natural light was a big factor in the creation of this space and has been incorporated into all work areas: a band of clerestory windows, made translucent for security, runs above continuous wall-mounted pharmaceutical shelving.
