About the Project
CRGA Design transformed the sixth floor of a historic 1921 medical building into a state-of-the-art mobility research laboratory at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital. The renovation seamlessly integrates cutting-edge motion analysis technology within the century-old structure while addressing unique architectural challenges.
The iMoLAB features dual research zones: an adaptive treadmill area for dynamic movement analysis and a motion capture zone with overhead tracking systems. Advanced vibration control, electromagnetic interference mitigation, and acoustic enhancements ensure precise data collection. The design emphasizes flexibility through adjustable tracking systems, modifiable camera positions, and mobile workstations, allowing researchers to continuously refine their methodologies.
Thoughtful details include high-performance lighting, integrated charging solutions, and resilient flooring with wayfinding cues that align with MedStar's standards. As part of a larger sixth-floor transformation, iMoLAB establishes MedStar Union Memorial Hospital as a leader in mobility science and rehabilitation research.
