About the Project

CRGA Design was tasked with conducting comprehensive interior renovations to the existing Curtis National Hand Center clinical suite, located on the second floor of the Johnston Professional Building on the MedStar Union Memorial Hospital campus. The primary objectives of this project were to improve patient and staff flow, improve staff efficiency, and enhance wayfinding for patients navigating through the suite.

CRGA assessed the existing layout of the clinical suite, analyzed the programmatic spatial requirements, and developed a revised floor plan that best improved flow and efficiency, while adding to the total number of clinical treatment and evaluation spaces. Interior design elements including finish materials, lighting, graphics, and furnishings were utilized to create a cohesive and calming environment conducive to healing and wellness.

The interior renovations for the Curtis National Hand Center represented a significant opportunity to enhance the overall functionality, efficiency, and patient experience within the facility. CRGA Design was committed to delivering a transformative design solution that not only met the project objectives, but also exceeded the expectations of MedStar Union Memorial Hospital and its stakeholders. All design elements adhered to ADA accessibility guidelines in compliance with healthcare design guidelines and standards, as well as best practices and evidence-based design.
