CRGA Joins Collaborative Effort to 3D Print Face Shields

During this time of crisis, many manufacturers are re-purposing their businesses and coming together to help create much needed personal protective equipment (PPE) for local hospitals. One of the largest alliances in Baltimore City is between We the Builders, Open Works, and Innovation Works. They have come together to facilitate the production and distribution of Prusa Labs’ design for an open-source face shield that can be 3D printed and attached to a sheet of plastic to help protect Maryland medical professionals. These face shields provide healthcare workers the CDC recommended level of protection to stay safe whether they are treating patients in an acute care facility or responding on scene.

In a nutshell, We the Builders hosts the build on their platform for part tracking, Open Works is collecting the finished parts and packaging them, and Innovation Works is working with healthcare providers to determine where masks are needed most and distribute them. Other businesses with 3D printers across the state of Maryland, including CRGA Design, have been invited to participate by printing Prusa Labs’ design and sending it to Open Works for final assembling, sanitation and distribution.

CRGA Design acquired a 3-D Printer several years ago for our designers’ in-house use. A 3D printer is an excellent tool for exterior modeling and the visualization of design concepts. During this time, we are using our 3D printer to provide what we can for the creation of new face shields to be distributed to Maryland healthcare systems.

CRGA Design has been printing parts for the past two weeks. In total, this collective partnership has created over 6,300 masks for healthcare workers. This is another excellent demonstration of the Baltimore Community coming together to help lessen the burden on healthcare workers and protect those who protect us.
