About the Project

The Shore Medical Pavilion was constructed to provide an ambulatory hub in the Queen Anne’s County area. CRGA Design initially developed a program for the facility and then provided comprehensive architectural and interior design services in connection with both the base building and the interior fit-out of the suites. The building is approximately 60,000 square feet. The first floor houses a large primary care suite and an imaging center. The second and third floors house a mixture of multi-specialty suites and time-share suites. The third floor was also designed to accommodate a future ambulatory surgery center.

This project provides a great example of our firm’s ability to work within a tight budget and schedule. Quick approval by the Queen Anne’s Planning Commission was critical in order to keep the project on schedule. A concept for this building had previously been prepared by another architectural firm. When our firm was selected as the architect for the project, we were directed to use this concept as it was the Owner’s understanding that it had been previously approved by Queen Anne’s County. When we presented the concept to the Planning Commission as part of the entitlement process, it was immediately and unanimously rejected. The Planning Commission meets every thirty days, so we had one chance to gain approval at the next meeting before significantly impacting the schedule. Our staff met off-line with representatives of the planning staff to gain a better understanding of the Commission’s objections. We redesigned the building facades, incorporating regional architectural elements into the design. It was unanimously approved at the next meeting. The new design simplified the building exterior and reduced the overall cost of the project. The County also worked with us to reduce the building permitting time frame, which also kept the project on schedule.
